NEW:
- Multi-Bounce Global Illumination for All GPUs
We’ve unified our global illumination settings across all GPU types. This means users with a graphics card that doesn’t support hardware ray-tracing will benefit now also from improved lighting quality visible in indirect illumination and reflections.
We’ve adjusted our “Medium” quality setting to include indirect light bounces of artificial lights, greatly enhancing rendering quality of indoor scenes with that setting.
Medium Quality setting before
Medium Quality setting in Enscape 4.2 - Software Ray-Traced Sun Shadows
Users can now switch on a software implementation of ray-traced sun shadows with all supported GPUs. This provides the same visual appearance as ray-traced sun shadows with hardware ray tracing.
Since this feature has a severe impact on performance, it will only be enabled for captures (screenshots, videos, panoramas) and not in walkthrough for now. To reduce the rendering times during captures while providing a high quality the shadow denoiser will always be enabled and can not be switched off. In scenes with a lot of animated vegetation, shadows for animated vegetation will not always be ray traced. The threshold for that is determined by the image quality settings. In ultra quality, all animated vegetation will always be ray traced.
- Rhino – World Coordinate System Texture Mapping Support
Enscape now considers WCS/OCS and WCS/OCS (box style) Texture Mapping Channel set in the Rhino Material Editor. Additionally, the Enscape Material Editor exposes new options to set Rhino Texture Coordinate System per texture or for all textures at once.
- Rhino – Support for up to 6 Clipping Planes
Rhino supports an arbitrary number of clipping planes. Due to performance reasons, Enscape will only support 6 clipping planes. Enscape will use the clipping planes that were least recently changed. Enscape currently ignores the selective clipping functionality added in Rhino 8. - Vectorworks – Support Clip Cube
- Archicad 28 Support
- Revit – Display Graphics Overrides
We have added support for displaying graphics overrides. In order to display them, activate the “Display Revit Objects, Filters and Elements” checkbox shown in the following screenshot.
In the first iteration of our support for this comprehensive Revit feature, we display solid colors and transparency configured in Category, Filter and Element overrides. The following screenshots shows an example project with a few configured overrides (left is Revit, right is Enscape).
Limitations & Known Issues
This feature will only be available in Revit 2021 and newer.
The graphics overrides are a highly complex feature with many special cases. We cannot yet guarantee that Revit and Enscape will show exactly the same results. For example, we currently have issues where the overrides can be (partly) missing for stairs.Nevertheless, we believe we have a usable state and would like your feedback on how to improve on this feature in the future.
We are in the process of writing a knowledge base article that will go into more detail.
UPDATE:
- Enscape Impact Improvements
The Energy Use Intensity dial control now includes a legend. Labels are not cut anymore due to longer text in different languages. We also improved the performance when re-running the analysis after changing Enscape Impact settings only. - Installer Now Removes Previous Per-User Plugin Registrations
Users should run into less issues when upgrading from previous Enscape versions. - Batch Rendering – Views With Orthographic or Two-Point Projection Are Not Exported
Previously, these views were exported changing their projection to Perspective automatically. - Artistic Modes – Show Tints for Transparent Surfaces
Previously, all transparent surfaces were rendered as an off-blue color. We now show the material tint for each of them. - Artistic Modes – Watercolor Texture Detail/Strength Can Be Adjusted With New “Surface Detail” Slider
We realized that the current watercolor strokes can be too intense for some styles so a new slider adjusts that. A value of 0 removes any textures and provides an effect similar to cell-shading. - Artistic Modes – Pen Strokes Behind Transparent Surfaces Are No Longer Gray
The Pen mode is about using a black pen to draw the lines, so having gray ones was not exactly fitting. - Artistic Modes – Adjusted Contour Detection
People’s faces now look cleaner and closer to their 3D representation. - Custom Asset Editor – Prevent Problematic Folders Selection
Selecting the same or nested Project and Output directories may cause different issues. Therefore, the application now makes additional checks and tries to prevent this showing error and warning messages. - Renderer Startup and Mode-Switching Times Have Been Improved
BUGFIXES:
- Error When Closing CAD With an Open Enscape Material Editor
- Material Preview Generation Failed After an Adjustable Asset Material Change
- Incorrect Background Rendering When “Apply Alpha Channel” Setting Was Previously Set but Selected Image Format Does Not Provide an Alpha Channel
- Batch Screenshot Output With Names That Contain ‘#’ Characters Are Now Saved Correctly
- Custom Asset Changes Were Not Applied on Asset Instance Placement
- Some Executable Files Installed With Enscape Were Not Signed
- Enscape Could Not Start When Missing Required Disk Permissions
- Multiple Issues With Enscape Window Positioning on Multiple Screens
- Artistic Modes – Several Bug Fixes and Smaller Improvements
- Glass Material – Assigned Video Textures Were Not Saved Into the Project
- Logging – Debug Logs Can Cause Large Logfiles
- Material Editor – Height Map Type Was Not Properly Recognized on Texture Selection Preventing Successful Material Saving
- Multi Asset Placement – Circular Area Selection Did Not Get Reset
- Visual Settings – Fog Disappeared After Opening Atmosphere Tab
- Fixed memory leaks that could lead to out-of-memory situation when Enscape was open for an extended period
- Revit – Changes to Base Color of Glass Material Are Not Saved
- Revit – No Geometry Appears In Renderer For Specific Project
This specific project had a family defined with many Enscape assets inside and a lot of instances of this family was placed. - Rhino – Baking of NoRepeat Textures Causes Issues
The baking of NoRepeat textures by Rhino caused huge textures and would also cause issues when using the TIFF format which Enscape no longer supports. NoRepeat textures are no longer baked and will not be displayed correctly in Enscape. - Rhino – Enscape Does Not Start With a Certain Project
This project had somehow contained unnamed materials. - Rhino – Incorrect Positioning of Asset Preview Geometry in Block Editor
- Rhino – Material Name Strangely Changed When Switching to Physically Based Without Rename
- Rhino – UV Transformations for Textures Break When Switching From PBR to Enscape Material
- SketchUp – Exporting Extremely Large Texture Fails
- Vectorworks – Water Material Properties Are Not Saved in a Particular Project
- Vectorworks 2024 & 2025 – Running Application Was Not Detected on Installation and Uninstallation
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Rhino – NoRepeat Textures Not Displayed Correctly
Previously, we relied on Rhino’s baking of the NoRepeat textures to support this feature. However, this caused a number of issues (resulting textures could be huge, unsupported format, pixelated result). Thus, we have turned the baking off which means NoRepeat textures will not be displayed in Enscape as intended.
We are thinking about adding this capability natively to Enscape. If this is important to you, please let us know.

I'm seeing a strange behavior with this version on Sketchup 2024.
Activating Enscape seems to change the visible or hidden state of the tags, making them all turned on in the current scene. The other scenes keep the visible / hidden state of the tags as I set them but in the current one I have to redo a setting.
This thing also happens when Enscape finishes a rendering or a batch rendering.

Definitely a BUG, I return to 4.1.0.2321 , because the last version also has a bug

Another minor bug, it keeps forgetting the active section cut when I switch scenes. I'll send a report next time it happens.

I can also conform the section cut bug. i have to re-cut the section to get it to work

Another problem, which I can't reproduce because I uninstalled the latest version, happened to me when inserting some assets.
It happened to me a couple of times that the pop-up that appears when inserting an asset from the library remains visible and does not disappear in any way except restarting Sketchup.

happymilk, andybot , ryanfernie can I please ask you to report your findings by sending in a Support ticket using the support button in SketchUp? No need to update back to the latest version for that. That way we can better analyze the issues. Thank you so much! Please let me know in case you can't or would prefer not to.

Hi Kaj
I think I filed a report using the method you described for the tag issue. But I haven't heard back from the support team and I don't know if anyone has seen it.- Monday, 4:22pm

Hey happymilk - you should in any case receive a message back sharing your case number with you. If you haven't received that, of course there's a chance it ended up in the spam folder. Either check that, or feel free to give me your email address (the one you've used to log the ticket) via direct message and I'm happy to look into what happened. We're not ignoring any tickets but I also want to make sure yours is not lost!

No problem Kaj. The new features introduced in the last release didn't impact sketchup that much. So going back to the old version didn't cause me many problems.
I sent the report more for you than for me.
In any case, I checked and I have no response from the team (not even in spam). I hope I didn't make any mistakes at this point.
I'll send you my email via private message anyway. Maybe it can be useful for the future.
Thanks
Mirko

Thanks Mirko, it's well appreciated!
I checked in the system and you indeed received a response from my colleague Zahari just eight hours after you send your support ticket. I will reach out to the team tomorrow and see what we can do to find out where that response ended up. I'll get back to you about it =)
