I read somewhere that Serum 2 will be free for all current Serum users. Can anybody confirm this? Any official announcement about this?

Could it be this podcast? I seem to remember it was.

Considering this stuff changes all the time, it may be advisable asking directly on the Xfer forums.

I hate to register to forums just for this question but I would buy Serum now if officially true.

There is seriously no way to know without asking the man himself. I got nothing but old info.
EDIT: From an IT business sense, it would be a tremendously bad move to launch it for free for previous owners. I give it a 50/50 chance that the original intent will hold. It would have to be a principle thing from the creator's point of view. Considering the amount of development it must've gone through (especially now Vital is here, for free) I can't imagine launching Serum 2 for free in any situation.

I couldn't resist so I asked Steve directly about Serum 2.0. It looks like Serum is back on GAS menu.

I love Serum and it is really good for doing ARPs and basses. It has a great sound quality.

Steve also as seen from that, has a wonderful sense of humour.
Plus I have never ever seen a developer fix bugs and provide updates like him (Patrick of Tal is the next closest).
I have been on Discord with Steve, find a bug and within an hour or two, he sends me an update and keeps sending updates till the issue is solved.
Serum 2.0 especially with additions by Dave of DMG Audio fame will I am guessing be off the chain.

Serum is pretty good alright, although it could do with better presets I reckon..
It can sound very organic, and I dunno if the presets portray this..
Every few months I get tempted by nerve too..if it was rent to own on splice I'd have it..

Yeah I made the same observation, the non-capitalized word 'nerve' is actually 'Nerve' which seems to be a different synthesizer. Cqd is no longer talking about Serum here.

I really hope he isn't wrong about those "couple of months" hehe. Serum 2 is my most anticipated synth, besides Zebra 3 of course.

That's going to make a lot of people happy with sitting on their v1 for a while if it lands in time for a nice little Christmas present, (especially if it's a free upgrade as mooted).

I don't have any reason to doubt Steve Duda, but if he'll stick to his words it will be a grand gesture that I hope he won't regret because it's something I really can't justify from economic standpoint. One could argue that UVI Falcon had free updates since v1 but it's development was steady over the years and they have other means of generating revenue in form of expansions and sample libraries which drive the sales of the synth as well. Serum on the other hand was released 10 years ago, it didn't have any major updates since and could be the best selling software synth of all time holding a very large market share. So the question remains how many new licenses he can sell and if those will cover all the costs of development and how profitable this thing will turn out to be. Anyway, I guess he knows what he's doing.

Same with Zebra 3 I guess. Probably a good chunk of the Zebra 2 owners got ZebraHZ which will grant them Zebra 3 for free. I do trust Urs knows what he's doing.
For what it's worth, I don't own Serum but I am very interested in Serum 2 since I heard Steve was working with DMG Audio for the DSP.

For me it's the workflow as well. The UI just clicks with me and Serum is the only synth that I feel comfortable starting with the init patch and creating something that I hear in my head. How modulation is assigned and tweaked is so effortless and the visual feedback helps to see what's happening and inspires me to try things and learn more.
Honestly, I like Duda's philosophy but Serum is so good I would pay a reasonable upgrade cost without question.
